VIETNAMESE REFUGEES IN HONG KONG

1. In your letter of 2 December setting out which countries were and were not taking these refugees you wrote that Ireland was unlikely to accept any.

2. The Department of Foreign Affairs tell us that this is not quite their situation (although it seems pretty close to me). They add that while nothing may have happened since we reported in our telegram 646 of 27 September on the Irish position, the Irish Government has not forgotten the issue and may well have something to say about it next year.

3.

We shall tackle the DFA again therefore in Spring 1986.
