Seriously concerned about Vietnamese

refugee problem

in

Hong Kong. Visited camps myself this year. Have decided to accept 500 more refugees to the UK, and to ask for more help from friends and allies. Embassy have made approach to you. Hope you will look at this carefully. There are, for example, a number of refugees in Hong Kong with close relatives in Austria.

2. (If pressed on response of other countries to UK initiative.) Too early to assess overall response, but already encouraging that a number of countries (eg Australia, New Zealand) have agreed to specific increases.
