VIETNAMESE BOAT PEOPLE: FAMILY REUNION

I have just seen Miss Cherry's minute of 11 November to you on this subject.

2. As far as I am concerned there is absolutely no question of our even considering the possibility of meeting travel costs for Vietnamese boat people. This is entirely a Home Office matter and if the Home Office is so keen for the costs to be met they should provide the funds.

3. I have asked Miss Cherry, once we have your views, to send quickly

a firm letter to the Home Office rejecting any suggestion that aid funds should be used. I frankly see little point in a meeting, at least involving ODA, as this proposal is a non-starter.
