VISIT OF MR RENTON TO SOUTH EAST ASIA, 31 OCTOBER 3 NOVEMBER
1.
Mr Renton is going to Indonesia, after his visit to Hong Kong (28-31 October) and will make a brief stop over in Singapore. The principal purpose of the visit to Indonesia is to attend a regional Heads of Mission Conference (1-2 November, Jakarta).
2. We need to brief Mr Renton both for the Heads of Mission Conference and for his ministerial calls in Indonesia and Singapore. I should be grateful for briefs, listed in the first attachment, in final form, by Tuesday 22 October (briefs for which SEAD is leading should be with me, in draft by Friday 19 October). The CHOGM brief and contribution on the EC ASEAN Economic Ministers' meeting should follow as soon as possible thereafter.
3.
The briefs for the Heads of Mission Conference are for background and points to make should only be included if there is a particular issue you want Mr Renton to raise there.
