9. We have just announced decision to accept 500 Vietnamese refugees, almost all from Hong Kong. Hope this will

encourage others to take more. We have also made it clear

that depending on responses from other countries we shall

consider accepting further limited number from Hong

also

Kong.

Believe British Embassy have already approached your Government to ask you to take additional numbers. Hope you will consider very carefully whether there

is any thing further you can do to help.
