VIETNAMESE REFUGEES IN HONG KONG
Thank you for your support for the British Refugee Council's proposals concerning Vietnamese refugees in Hong Kong as stated in the booklet "Behind Barbed Wire". As you know, the Home Affairs Committee has since published its report "Refugees and Asylum, with special reference to the Vietnamese" in which, I am delighted to say, the Committee has fully supported all the British Refugee Council's recommendations. I am pleased to enclose a short leaflet the Council has produced which gives an outline of the report.
I, and other members of the Council, have already had the opportunity to have an initial exchange of views at a meeting with Mr. David Waddington and I know that he will shortly be making a response. Knowing that you have already expressed your support for the BRC's recommendations and have informed the Minister of this, I hope you will now feel able to inform him of your support for the recommendations of the Home Affairs Committee and urge the Government to act immediately to implement them It is important that this action be take as soon as possible so that the Government may take Hon. Members' views into account in its response.
Thank you again for your support. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there is anything further you would like to know.
