Other resettlement countries responded by taking large numbers
Indeed a total of some 200,000 places from the area as a whole
were pledged at that conference.
If we were able to take a further quota now, it would clearly
be viewed favourably by those countries we are asking to take
more in the light of what they have told us. But in my personal view a figure as low as 100 would be too small to make very
much impact. Something more substantial, possibly over a longer
period, would seem indispensable if we are to hope for a com-
mensurately generous response.
