The Clerk to the Sub-Committee telephoned today with some further queries about the memorandum on Vietnamese refugees which the FCO submitted to the Committee in October last year:-

would it be possible to obtain a more up-to-date version of Annex A to the memorandum, "statistics and charts concerning Refugees from Indo-China in South East Asia for the month of September 1984"?

Paragraph 3 of the Memorandum states that the UNHCR figures for the UK do not necessarily accord with the Government's own figures. Is there any reason for this discrepancy?
