Ministers' decision on computerisation of passport issuing. BN(0)s with other nationals will be issued with a passport which differs from that issued to UK nationals for EC purposes;
to.agree that:
d) the passport should be the same as the common EC format save for removal of references to the EC and the languages of the
Member States, so that it would be burgundy red, soft covered
and smaller in style than the present passport. On the cover
would appear 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland', the Royal Emblem and 'Passport';
1
to note that:
e) initially until the new documents are introduced, BN(0)s
are likely to be issued with the traditional hard blue cover
passport;
f) the Home Secretary will be responsible for setting the fee
for the BN(0) passport and this will be considered in the
context of a general review of fees to be put forward next
year; we believe that we can avoid a charge to the Home Office
for passports to be issued in Hong Kong;
g) passport issuing policy will not permit someone to hold a
BN (0) and a BDTC passport simultaneously.
