Endorsements in the BN (0) Passport
9. The aim is that BN (0) passports should indicate that the holder has a right of abode in Hong Kong. This will require discussions with the Chinese, amendment of the Hong Kong Immigration Ordinances and the issue of revised Hong Kong identity cards.
There is no
intention to separately endorse the BN (0) passport holder's immigration status under the Immigration Act 1971.
Obtaining the Passport
10. Work is underway to produce application forms for BN (0) passports and explanatory leaflets setting out the options available to Hong Kong BDTCs and the consequences of failing to obtain a BN (0) passport by 30 June 1997.
Issuing Policy
11. It will be open to people to apply for a BN (0) passport at any time after 1 July 1987 but before a cut-off date (yet to be determined). BDTC passports for those who wish them will be issued with validity restricted to 30 June 1997. It will not be possible to hold simultaneously BN (0) and BDTC passports. But for the purposes of the British Nationality Act 1981, Hong Kong BDTCs will
retain that status until 30 June 1997.
