Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs presents his compliments to their Excellencies and Messieurs the Heads of Diplomatic Missions in London and has the honour to enclose a memorandum on changes in United Kingdom passport procedures which will result from the operation of the

British Nationality Act 1981: The Act is due to come into force

on 1 January 1983.

The Memorandum is provided for the information and convenience of

Missions. The text of the memorandum has been sent to all British

Embassies and British High Commissions overseas for onward

transmission to the Government to which they are accredited.

The Secretary of State would be grateful if the information

contained in the memorandum could be brought to the attention of

the appropriate sections within Diplomatic Missions and the Consulates-

General outside London,
