has now spoken to Stockholm about their

I gather that many Hong Kong Chinese have lived in Sweden for some time and each year the Swedes receive a number of applications from Hong kong BDTC's wishing to obtain Swedish nationality. In the past, the Swedish have said that everyone wishing to take Swedish nationality, including BDTC's must renounce citizenship of any other country

Recently, the Embassy in Stockholm was informed that Hong Kong BDTC's would no longer have to renounce their 'nationality' before obtaining Swedish citizenship. This puts Hong Kong BDTC's in the same category as political refugees or people from disputed territories such as Namibia.

Stockholm are pursuing the matter with the Swedish authorities and will copy any further correspondence on the matter to NTD, will keep us informed. They have said however, that the Swedish official who told them of this change in existing practise is particularly 'anti-British'.
