At dinner, Mr Akers-Jones mentioned that while in Geneva he had met the Ambassador of the Chinese mission there. Mr Lu said that where Hong Kong was concerned, the GATT should not be a problem. Mr Akers-Jones said that he thought that there was a relatively simple procedure that could be followed in dealing with the question. Membership of GATT would be an important boost to Hong Kong, both internally internationally.
