HONG KONG'S FUTURE POSITION IN THE GATT AND THE CCC

1. I spoke to you this morning about a draft paper for Hong Kong's Executive Council on the best course to be taken to secure Hong Kong's continued participation in the GATT and the CCC beyond 30 June 1997.

2. I enclose a copy of the paper. Paras 16 18, 20, 23 and 25 refer to the CCC. Could you please telephone me by close of play on Wednesday 29 May if you have any comments on these paragraphs?

3. I apologise for the short notice. We need to telegraph an agreed text to Hong Kong on Thursday 30 May.
