1. Please refer to my letter t You of 8 November.
2. With regard to the 1978 Peoples Daily article (para 5), Ken Walker has reminded me that it appeared at a time when liberalisation and democracy were very much features of the Chinese political scene. It is not certain that such a firm advocacy of real choice would appear now, though the concept has not been denied.
3. There is also a typing error in para 5, which I failed to correct. In line 17, "direction election" should read "direct elections".
