The group felt that the consultative committee should be a territory-wide organisation recognised by China and should be allowed to send representatives to sit on the drafting committee to ensure that public views were reflected. It also suggested that a joint organisation be set up by various community groups to monitor the work of the consultative
committee.
Magazine editor Hu Juren said the approval of the membership list by the NPC Standing Committee was expected. He felt that Sir Sze-yuen Chung was not appointed because of his position in Exco, which carried with it a strong impression of loyalty to Britain.
Chinese University lecturer Andrew Wong felt that the drafting committee was bloated. It should consist of no more than 20 members, he said.
