6. On the Chinese leadership, he thought Deng was following his

normal strategy of moving forward, pausing to consolidate and then

moving on. Li Xiannian might be moved next. He thought Zhao Ziyang

would eventually become President in Li's place and Zhao would in

turn be succeeded by Li Peng. I may be out of date but have not heard

of this particular story. In any event it seems we ought to be having

Li Peng on visits to this country and to Hong Kong. Y K Pao said he had

already suggested to Li Peng that he visit Hong Kong, but Li had replied

that his wife would go first. She apparently has some post in the

nuclear industry.
