2. I should be grateful for briefing material from action addresses for the subjects listed in annexes 2-4. This should be submitted by close of play on Friday 8 March either to SEAD (Mr Shave, Room W87 telephone number 233 4438) or to SAD (Mr Cleghorn, Room W130, telephone number 233 5993), as appropriate.
3. Please note that there is a new format for briefing for the Prime Minister. It is set out at annex 5 and there is a mock-up at annex 6. Conciseness is the key. This will mean that for many subjects entries under each heading will be limited to a single sentence. The Prime Minister's extensive knowledge of many international issues obviates the need for lengthy briefing.
4. In the present exercise we are required to produce one composite brief covering all general issues (annex 2) plus a single brief for each country to be visited (annex 3) covering all bilateral, regional and local matters. These briefs are, in effect, steering briefs and must be of a similarly manageable length.
5.
Contributions should be in draft and should adhere strictly to the format set out in the annex. Where necessary, other departments should be consulted, likewise posts.
