HONG KONG AGREEMENT: RATIFICATION

I transmit herewith the Chinese Instrument of Ratification of the Joint Declaration of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of the People's Republic of China on the Question of Hong Kong which was signed at Peking on 19 December 1984.

I received this Instrument from Mr Zhou Nan, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, this morning in exchange for the United Kingdom's Instrument transmitted to me under cover of your despatch. In accordance with paragraph 8 of the Joint Declaration, as of this day the Joint Declaration has entered into force.

I also transmit the Protocols of Exchange, in the English and Chinese languages, which were signed by me and Mr Zhou Nan at the time of the exchange.
