BDTCS connected with Hong Kong. I very much agree with the Council's

endorsement of the agreement with the Chinese as a whole. We need to

make sure that the nationality provisions are consistent with that

approach and do not undermine the arrangements we have made. The

Government are confident that the agreement provides a secure framework

for the future stability and prosperity of Hong Kong. We hope that the

Indian community and other ethnic minorities in Hong Kong will continue

to live and prosper there. They have made a distinguished contribution

to Hong Kong in the past, and we very much hope they will continue to

do so.
