30. Article 7(2) includes BN (0)s in the categories of those eligible to

apply for registration as British citizens under section 4 of the British

Nationality Act 1981.

Article 7(3) provides that BN(0)s will remain Commonwealth citizens

in line with other British nationals.

32. Article 7(4) 7(12) encompasses all the other amendments which will

be necessary to the British Nationality Act 1981 and to the British

Nationality (Falkland Islands) Act 1983. In particular, Article 7(4)(d)

ensures that no fee will be charged for registration as a BN(0).

Consequential amendments

33.

Article 8 relates to the various consequential amendments to the

other enactments set out in the Schedule to the Order.

Conclusion

34. Her Majesty's Government hope that the early publication of the

annexed draft Order will provide the basis for informed discussion of its

provisions, and that the interested public - in particular Hong Kong
