A person naturalised as a BDTC on grounds of marriage to a person who is a BDTC by birth, naturalisation or registration in Hong Kong, or born to a parent who was born, naturalised or registered in Hong Kong, and of residence in Hong Kong. (Section 18(2) BNA 1981).

A person registered as a BDTC on an application made within 5 years or 8 years if the Secretary of State thinks fit in the circumstances of a particular case of the commencement of the BNA 1981 or if a minor made within 5 years or 8 years if the Secretary of State thinks fit, from the date on which he attains full age by reason of having an entitlement to register on grounds of ordinary residence in Hong Kong had paragraphs 2 to 5 of Schedule 1 of the Immigration Act 1971 remained in force. (Section 19 BNA 1981).

A woman registered as a BDTC on an application made within 5 years of the BNA 1981 on the grounds that immediately before 1 January 1983 she was the wife of a CUKC who or whose father was born, adopted, naturalised or registered in Hong Kong and who became a BDTC on 1 January 1983, or who would have done so but for his death or for his having ceased to be a CUKC as a result of a declaration of renunciation. (Section 20 BNÁ 1981).

A person born in a foreign country within 5 years of the commencement of the BNA 1981 and registered as a BDTC on an application made within 12 months of the birth, and whose father, grandfather or great grandfather was born, naturalised or registered in Hong Kong. (Section 21 BNA 1981).

A person registered as a BDTC on the grounds that immediately before 1 January 1983 he would if he had applied been registered under section 1 of the BNA 1964 (Resumption) as a CUKC by virtue of having an appropriate qualifying connection with Hong Kong or if a woman by virtue of having been married before 1 January 1983 to a person who has, or would if living, have had such a connection. (Section 22(1) BNA 1981).

(A person has a qualifying connection with Hong Kong for the purposes of this section if he, his father or father's father was born, registered or naturalised in Hong Kong).

A person registered as a BDTC on the grounds that he had before 1 January 1983 ceased to be a CUKC as the result of a declaration of renunciation and had an appropriate qualifying connection with Hong Kong or if a woman by virtue of having been married before 1 January 1983 to a person who has, or would if living, have had such a connection. (Section 22(2) BNA 1981).

(A person has a qualifying connection with Hong Kong if he, his father or father's father was born, registered or naturalised in Hong Kong).

A person who was a BDTC by reason of his birth, adoption, naturalisation or registration in Hong Kong by reason of one of his parents being born, adopted, naturalised or registered in Hong Kong and who had ceased to be a BDTC as the result of a declaration of renunciation of BDTC'ship, but subsequently registered as a BDTC. (Section 24 BNA 1981).

A person born in the United Kingdom after 1 January 1983 who is a BDTC on the grounds that he would otherwise be stateless and one of his parents is a BDTC by reason of one of his parents' birth, adoption, naturalisation or registration in Hong Kong. (Schedule 2, paragraph 1, BNA 1981).
