DRAFT HONG KONG (BRITISH NATIONALITY) ORDER 1985

30.1.85 30.1

1. This Order may be cited as the Hong Kong (British

Nationality) Order 1985 and shall come into operation on

1985, except for Article 5 which shall come into

operation on 1st July 1997.

2. References in this Order to circumstances connected with

Hong Kong are references to any of the circumstances described in

Schedule 1.

3.-(1) Subject to paragraph (2) below, any person who,

immediately before the relevant date (1st July 1997), is a Britis

Dependent Territories citizen by virtue (wholly or partly) of

circumstances connected with Hong Kong shall on that date

cease to be such a citizen.

(2) Paragraph (1) above shall not apply to any person who,

immediately before the relevant date, is a British Dependent

Territories citizen by virtue of circumstances which do not

include circumstances connected with Hong Kong

4.-(1) Any person who is a British Dependent Territories

citizen by virtue of circumstances connected with Hong Kong shall

be entitled, before the relevant date (or, if born in 1997 before

that date, before the end of that year) to be registered as such

a person, on application made before the date specified in

paragraph (3) below as being applicable in his case
