HONG KONG BILL: ORDERS IN COUNCIL ON NATIONALITY

Thank you for your letter of 24 January about the proposal that the Order in Council on nationality should be debated in draft to enable the Government to take acocunt of any strong feeling in the House against it. I have seen Leon Brittan's letter of 28 January on the same subject.

In the interests of smoothing the passage of the Hong Kong Bill I am happy to agree to this suggestion. I understand that the Order would be likely to be debated some time after the summer recess.
