I submit a note for dealing with the only amendment which has

far been put down, that by Lord Gridley on pensions. A paper was

sent to OD (K) on this subject last Thursday, and replies were

requested by Wednesday this week. I f the paper is cleared it will

be possible to use Variant B of the two versions attached. But I

fear that the Prime Minister's unexpected absence in Moscow may make

this impossible. In that case Variant A would be appropriate.
