So
I submit a note for dealing with the only amendment which has
far been put down, that by Lord Gridley on pensions. A paper was
sent to OD (K) on this subject last Thursday, and replies were
requested by Wednesday this week. I f the paper is cleared it will
be possible to use Variant B of the two versions attached. But I
fear that the Prime Minister's unexpected absence in Moscow may make
this impossible. In that case Variant A would be appropriate.

I also submit revised supplementary notes to take account of
recent developments in relation the Basic Law Drafting Committee,
the District Board elections in Hong Kong, and revised notes on
nationality. matters.
