50. About 6,000 Indians in Hong Kong. Most of these are BDTCs. As
such they will be eligible to acquire BN(O) status. Those who have made their home in Hong Kong will be able to enjoy right of abode in
Hong Kong SAR under provisions of section XIV of Annex 1 to Joint
Declaration. No need to seek alternative right of abode. No
grounds for granting right of abode in UK.
POSITION OF NON-CHINESE BDTCs RESIDENT ABROAD

Residence outside Hong Kong is not a bar to the acquisition of
the new BN(O) status. Thus non-Chinese persons who are BDTCs by
virtue of a connection with Hong Kong will be eligible to apply for
the new status whether or not they are currently resident in Hong
Kong.
