BUSINESS STATEMENT

24 JANUARY : HONG KONG CHILE : EL SALVADOR

After the Business Statement on 24 January Mr Kinnock thanked the Leader for postponing the Committee Stage of the Hong Kong Bill. Mr Biffen hoped that the Bill would pass speedily through

the House.

2. Mr Kinnock referred also to an article in the New Statesmen about Chile and asked for a statement by the Foreign Secretary. Mr Biffen said he would draw the points made to the attention of the Foreign Secretary.

Sir Bernard Braine asked for a debate on human rights violations all over the world but was informed by Mr Biffen that no government time was available.

Mr Robert Parry drew attention to EDM 307 about the repression of trade unions in El Salvador. In his reply Mr Biffen said he would draw the matter to the attention of the Foreign Secretary.
