1. Mr Renton was grateful for your minute of 23 October. agrees with your recommendations except for your suggestion that the fixtures on 28 October and on 31 October at the airport should be deleted.

He would prefer to retain both,

on the basis that Hong Kong wants a "news event" each day and that it is generally easier to provide this from a fixed position. He takes your point about there being little more to say on departure on 31 October, but believes that saying goodbye to the Press corps will provide a useful press photo opportunity.

Mr Renton is content with your draft contribution to the LEGCO Building commemorative brochure and would be grateful if you would now transmit it to the Governor.
