1.3 New Village Housing
Village Housing is proposed within new de- signated areas for village expansion adjacent to existing villages. This housing will be integrated into the overall Master Plan and revitalized village framework. These village houses will be two-storey structures clustered on sites com- bining elements of traditional village layout with traditionally inspired modern design and infrastructure. Village expansion is the first step in a preservation strategy which will retain and improve the old village homes and townscape character, while providing a modern new village environment within the context of a traditional "lineal village" cultural milieu.

Rehousing District
These units will serve as replacement housing for existing residents in San Tin displaced by development proposals. Close proximity to industrial uses will lead to employment opportunities, and a possible cooperative venture with industries wishing to create a stable work force through a housing provision scheme. This district will contain commercial and recreation facilities amongst distinct neigh- bourhood areas of 3-4 storey structures. All resettlement housing units will be provided at
cost.
1.4.4 Home Ownership Scheme
A subsidy housing scheme similar to the Government "Home Ownership Scheme" is also being considered for a portion of "Master Plan Housing Units," whereby a yet to be specified number will be sold to "eligible" local, regional and extra-regional residents. These units would be mixed among non-subsidized units, thus promoting integration of different income groups. (See Volume 2, Chapter 7 for details.) Flexibility should be given to eventual New Town developers to provide HOS housing in San Tin within an overall regrant plot ratio of 0.4.
