MINISTERIAL VISITS COMMITTEE

1.

In accordance with FCO Circular 'B' 113/83 of 1 December 1983 the Sub-Committee of the Ministerial Visits Committee will meet next month to consider how the FCO should advise the Prime Minister with regard to her visits overseas in 1986, and detailed proposals from Departments with regard to bilateral visits overseas in 1986 by the Secretary of State and other FCO Ministers (excluding Mr Raison).

2. I should be grateful if Departments would send their proposals to Mr Gibbs, as Chairman of the Sub-Committee, via their AUSSs by 11 October. It would be helpful if copies could be sent to me direct please.

Earlier this year, doubts were expressed as to the value of the work of the Ministerial Visits Committee. Departments may wish to see the attached minute by the PUS to the Secretary of State on this point and the Secretary of State's response.
