Thank you for your letter of 27 September and for your kind words of congratulation. I am of course delighted by my new appointment.

I am due to visit Hong Kong at the end of this month and would be very happy to meet you and Mr Greenwood there. Unfortunately, as you surmise, there will not be time for me to accept your kind offer of lunch. The Governor has therefore kindly arranged for you and Mr Greenwood to be invited to a reception he is organising during my visit on 28 October.
