Ultimately, what we are all working for is the
future of the people of Hong Kong, their welfare, their
happiness. All our efforts must be directed with these
goals in mind. I am happy this
this evening to have the
opportunity to renew the firm commitment of the British
Government to Hong Kong over the next twelve years.
During that time HMG will continue through the Hong
Kong Government to provide sound administration, to
promote economic prosperity and to ensure social
stability.
