The most useful element of the revived committee structure, it seems to me, is the China Economic Committee. The CEC produced two very useful papers which stimulated a lively discussion. You will no doubt have seen a copy of Richard Margolis' letter of 5 November to William Ehrman, (copied to Rod Wye), enclosing copies of the papers, and suggesting direct contact between the Economic Analysis

Division of Economic Services Branch, the FCO and the Embassy in Peking. I am sure that this would be very useful for all

concerned.

The next meeting of the CRC will be on 11 January 1986, and will be reported in due course.
