.PNEUMOCONIOSIS (COMPENSATION) ORDINANCE

I rise to move the first motion standing in my name on

the Order Paper. The change proposed results from a recommendation

made by the Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund Board.

The Board administers the Pneumoconiosis Compensation

Fund, which is financed by a levy of 0.2 per cent on the value of

construction works undertaken and of quarry products produced in

Hong Kong. Construction works whose value does not exceed $250,000

are exempt from the levy.

The Board has recently recommended for the approval of

this Council that the limit should be raised from $250,000 to

$1,000,000. The intention is to reduce the considerable time and

effort presently spent in collecting relatively small sums of money.
