Sir, is there any effective scientific control over the

deposit of significant quantities of bateria into the water by

the swimmers?

Secretary for Health and Welfare: -

No, Sir, I'm afraid there isn't.

People are going into the

waters in large numbers at the weekends, and we don't know

whether they had a bath or shower before they go in.

(laughter)

I am afraid there's nothing very much we can do about it.
