閣下,在過去兩年間,消防事務處有没有接 獲因滅火行動中遭受損失而向當局要求 賠償的個案呢?

Sir, uring the past two years has the Fire Services Departrent

received any requests for compensation due to the damages ?

Secretary for Security : - Sir, I have statistics for the past 12

months and if my honourable friend will bear with me I can give him

in writing statistics for the previous 12 months. In the past 12

months we have had ten claims of which five were settled. The other

five cases are still being processed.

動中,應儘量避免損壞私人財物呢?

(The following is the interpretation of what Mr. WONG Lam asked.)

Sir, does the Hire Services Department know that the firemen should any

try their best not to bring about damages to private properties

during their operations ?

Secretary for Security : Yes, Sir, indeed they do, But we must

bear in mind, Sir, that their object in fighting a fire is to put

the fire out and reduce the risk to huma life and that inevitably

must be their first priority.
