Question: What arrangements are normally made to

inform drivers of any temporary changes to routing of traffic?

Secretary for Transport

Sir,

When it is necessary to divert traffic

temporarily for planned works such as road maintenance,

the Transport Department informs the media through

press releases and, if appropriate, conferences. When

an accident or an emergency requires the closure of a

road, the first priority is to deploy police at the

scene, to redirect traffic with the aid of temporary

traffic signs as required.

In such cases the media is

informed as soon as possible, if the disruption appears

likely to be protracted.
