If despite this danger, it is wished to proceed with this proposal, it would be necessary, in the interests of the officials concerned, to ensure that they enjoyed the same protection for words spoken in the legislature as is accorded to members and witnesses. Since the rules relating to immunity for spoken words are now contained in an Ordinance, this would mean an amendment to that Ordinance as well as amendments to the Standing Orders.
