Amendment of section 3.
ELECTIONS (MISCELLANEOUS AMENDMENTS) BILL
(c) by deleting the definition of "election" and substituting the following
definition-
"election" means an ordinary election or a by-election of persons to act
as members---
(a) of the Urban Council;
(b) of the Regional Council; or
(c) of a District Board;";
(d) in the definition of “member" by inserting after “Council” the following—
", of the Regional Council";
(e) in the definition of "ordinary election" by inserting after "Council” the
following-
(Cap. 366.)
(
", on the Regional Council";
by inserting after the definition of "provisional register" the following definition-
"Regional Council area" has the meaning assigned to it in the District
Boards Ordinance;";
(g) by deleting the full stop after the definition of "specified form" and
substituting a semicolon;
(h) by inserting after the definition of "specified form" the following defini-
tion-
(Cap. 366.)
""Urban Council area" has the meaning assigned to it in the District
Boards Ordinance.";
(i) by being renumbered as subsection (1); and
(j) by inserting after subsection (1) the following—
"(2) This Ordinance shall not apply to the election by the members of a District Board in the Regional Council area of a representative member to the Regional Council.
(3) In subsection (2) "representative member" has the meaning of 1985.) assigned to it in the Regional Council Ordinance 1985.".
17. Section 3 of the second principal Ordinance is amended—
(a) in subsection (1) by deleting paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) and substituting the
following-
"(a) the Governor in Council may declare any area of a District in the Urban Council area to be a constituency for the purpose of the election of persons to act as members of the Urban Council;
(b) the Governor in Council may declare any area of a District in the Regional Council area to be a constituency for the purpose of the election of persons to act as members of the Regional Council; (c) the Governor in Council may declare any area of a District to be a constituency for the purpose of the election of persons to act as members of the District Board established for that District;
(d) the Governor may, in respect of any constituency declared under paragraph (a), (b) or (c), declare the number of vacancies for members of that constituency."; and
(b) in subsection (2) by deleting "or (b)" and substituting the following-
", (b) or (c)".
