The above assessment applies generally to the relatively
8 Large group of MPs, both inside the Ango-Hong Kong Parliamentary
9 Group and out, who have visited Hong Kong in recent years and who
10 have developed an interest in Hong Kong largely through the

progress of the negotiations.
But there is, within the
12 Anglo-Hong Kong Group, a very small number of MPs, mainly on the
13 Left, who take a doctrinaire view of the need for early direct
elections in Hong Kong and who will attack the 1987 review as
15 woefully inadequate if it proposes anything less than these,
