CALL FOR BRIEFS

The Prime Minister will be visiting Peking with the Secretary of State from 18-20 December. Time will be short, since meetings will be restricted to 19 December, and the main focus of the visit will be signature of and discussions about the agreement on Hong Kong. Some briefing on other bilateral and international issues will however be required.

2. The details of the programme are still under discussion with the Chinese. However, we know that there will be a single session of formal talks, with Premier Zhao Ziyang, probably lasting 2-3 hours. I should be grateful if Departments could now prepare briefing (Points to Make and Essential Facts) in accordance with the following expected agenda:
