In subsequent discussion some of the pro-China members in the Hong Kong group thought that Sir S. Y.'s comment on the basic law was a mistake. Most of the Hong Kong invitees
considered that he had made a valid point which needed to be
made and had used the occasion of the Banquet with typical frankness to say his piece. They supported him.
