Dear Mr Hickson

ONG KONG AGREEMENT: LEGISLATION ON PRIVILEGES AND IMMUNITIES FOR

JOINT LIAISON GROUP

We are content that the five Chinese members of the Group should be entitled to the same privileges and immunities as those provided for diplomatic agents in the Diplomatic Privilege Act 1964. We assume that in view of the fact that meetings, in any location, of the Group will last days rather than weeks it is not the intention to extend the privileges and immunities to members of families as provided for by Article 37.1 of the Vienna Convention.

I am copying this letter to Mr Powell (Hong Kong Department, FCO) and Mr Fahy (B2, Immigration, Home Office).

Yours sincerely

J D BEAN
