FUTURE OF HONG KONG: COSTS OF THE MONITORING TEAM.
1.
2.
We spoke about my minute of 20 September to Miss Plater.
=
You asked for a complete breakdown of all the costs of the Monitoring Team (Sir Patrick Nairne and Mr Justice Simon Li). In working out these costs, I have used the exchange rate on which we based our original calculations ie El 10 Hong Kong dollars. However, if the pound does not improve upon the present exchange rate of £1 = 9.2 Hong Kong dollars, then I fear the final bill could be even greater.

The

costs are as follows:
Fees for Sir P Nairne
£143 per day x 62
Fees for Mr Justice Simon Li
HK$ 43,500 per month x 2 = $87,000
£8,866
£8,700
3.
25% on costs
HK$10,875 per
for Mr Li month x 2 $21,750
=
...
£2,175
.4.
Subsistence for Sir P Nairne 62 days x HK $300 a day = $18,600
£1,860
5.
Accommodation for Sir P Nairne 62 days x HK$1,564 = $96,968
£9,696
6.
Travel for Sir P Nairne.
First Class
from London to Hong Kong
(Price increase of £85 since original
submission of costs)
£2,545
7.
Entertainment allowance for
Sir P Nairne
8.
Incidentals eg taxis for
Sir Patrick Nairne
TOTAL
Up to 400
(approx) 40
£34,282
4.
The above calculations presume that the monitors will have finished their task within 62 days (e by 25 November). Should they need longer, there would be additional costs of approximately £500 per day.
I krust my maths is okay!
