I should be most grateful for your early agreement that fees may be paid at that level. Both Monitors have agreed to take on the appointment although the final details of their remuneration have not yet been settled, and the appointments will be announced in the next few days. It is clearly desirable that they should be told as soon as possible on what basis their remuneration will be calculated.

There will naturally also be other items of expenditure, such as the subsistence, accommodation and travel costs of the UK-based Monitor. Our Finance Department have asked me to record that it is their intention to find all the required expenditure within present cash limits, taking into account any adjustments to that limit that might need to be made to cope with exchange rate fluctuations and inflation differentials.
