Doar Tony,

16 August 1984

I am dictating this letter at our home outside Oxford on Wednesday, and there may be things to add when it is typed in my office at St. Catherine's on Thursday.

Its purpose is, first, to thank you most warmly for the helpful preliminary briefing which you gave me on Tuesday afternoon, and to enclose, on a personal basis, a copy of the letter which I have now sent to the Minister of State.

Secondly, it will be helpful, I think, to put down on paper our addresses on holiday in North Yorkshire as follows:-

(a) Friday evening, 17 August until Friday morning 24 August

c/o Lastingham Grange Hotel, Lastingham, York YO6 6TH (Tel.No. 075-15-402 or 075-15-345).

(b) From Friday evening 24 August until Sunday morning 2 September

c/o Mallyn Spout Hotel, Goathland, Whitby, Yorkshire

(Tel.No. Whitby 86206).

We shall spending Sunday night, 2 September, c/o Mrs. Hewitt (Market Drayton 3938). We shall be back at Chadlington 456

Yew Tree Cottage, Chilson, Nr. Charlbury, Oxford - on Monday evening,

3 September. I am rather hoping to stay out of St. Catherine's until Monday 10 September, unless I have to go in to College; you will be able to get in touch with me either direct at Chadlington 456 or through my Secretary at the College, Oxford 249541.

Since dictating the above, we have spoken twice on the telephone; and Mrs. Willbery, my Secretary, has typed out the Press statement and oral statement which we briefly discussed.

Two or three points to finish off this letter:

(a) Press statement

May I suggest two points? (1) There would be advantage for me if the statement could indicate when the task is likely to

/begin
