and on the drafting of the Basic Law which has become the focus of attention. Although the primary task of the Assessment Office was to provide an overall assessment of the extent of acceptability of the draft agreement, the Office has tried as far as possible to summarize all the key points made in order to give a full account of the reaction in Hong Kong. The Office also believes that this will be of value to the British Parliament and in the continuing discussions between Britain and China particularly in the Joint Liaison Group.
