STATE OF THE TALKS
Talks are continuing with the Chinese Government through diplomatic
channels in Peking. There have now been 14 rounds in the second,
more detailed phase of the talks. The last round took place on 9/10
May and was described in the agreed press statement as being 'useful and constructive'. The next round will take place on 30/31 May.
The atmosphere of the talks is friendly. Much detailed ground has
been covered in serious discussions. The negotiators have been
guided by a mutual concern to work out arrangements which will maintain Hong Kong's stability and prosperity.
