That this House will not endorse any proposals made by the British Government and the Chinese Government regarding the future status of Hong Kong unless adequate steps have been taken to ascertain the views of the people of Hong Kong on the acceptability of such proposals.

That this House deplores the recent action of certain officers of the Metropolitan Police Force in improperly removing, opening, retaining and copying personal and private posses- sions of Mr Duncan Campbell, a patient at Saint Bartholemey's Hospital, following a road accident; and calls on the Home Secretary to ensure respect for personal privacy by instructing the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Force that no similar action should occur in the future and all private papers copied should be surrendered up or des- troyed.
