When asked who could represent Hong Kong to work directly with the

Beijing Government in jointly drafting the 'basic law (assuming there

being such an opportunity), as the question allowed 'open-ended answers

there were multifarious opinions, most of which at the same, time were

'multiple responses'. Therefore in analysis, the method of collective

response pattems was used. In their answers, 27% of the students

thought that those with the following qualification could be

representatives : intelligentsia/professionals in the legal, political

and economic sectors/clccted representatives' (mombers of councils and

boards) (Note 1); 10% opined that the representatives should be Umaldo

members/District Board members (Note 2). The others favoured a number

of other candidate, but each represented less than 10% of the students,

showing a diversity of preference.
